50 police officers stood guard around the mosque compound to stop the gays and lesbians from damaging the mosque.

MCA: DAP the real racists

PETALING JAYA: MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has slammed DAP as the “practitioners of real racism.”

“They call themselves multiracial but practise a racial slant in interpreting MCA’s decision.

“By DAP’s own argument, they have exposed their opportunistic traits,” said Liow in a statement yesterday.

DAP leaders had accused MCA of trying to threaten the Chinese community with the recent announcement that MCA would not accept any post in the Cabinet should its results at the next general election be poorer than that of the 2008 polls.

The MCA presidential council on April 29 declared it was backing its president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek’s call for the party to give up all government posts if the Chinese community did not support its candidates in the next general election.

Dr Chua previously said there was no intention to threaten anyone, and it was only an explanation that MCA could not claim legitimacy in representing the Chinese community without resounding support.

Liow yesterday defended the party decision, saying it had received the support of members nationwide.

“It will truly embody the spirit of democracy. Self-encouragement and self-improvement are the main features of this policy,” said Liow, describing the decision as historic.

He added that it would show the party fully respects the wishes of the Chinese community.

“Such a decision was made after careful thought by the presidential council. It has nothing to do with so-called racist political relations,” he said.

Liow questioned DAP’s intention in accusing MCA of threatening the Chinese community when in the past the former had urged the party to withdraw from the Gover­nment.

In fact, I would love to go home. But the Chinese here, felt that anything said against them is racist, but they have the gall to do the same to others and say it's their right and for equal treatment.
