DAP reps criticised for not wearing ceremonial attire
PERHAPS they were taking a page out of the book of their Perak colleagues, when 12 DAP assemblymen turned up for the opening of the 17th state assembly sitting minus their ceremonial attire.
The move sparked the first round of battle between Barisan Nasional and the opposition.
There was no surprise in the move, however, as state DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng had stated on Monday that the party's assemblymen would participate wearing dark suits rather than the ceremonial attire.
His rationale was that the party did not want to waste taxpayers' money as a full official attire, including a songkok, would cost between RM2,000 and RM4,000.
"In the past session, the speaker has ruled that it is not necessary to wear the official uniform as long as we wear dark official suits.
"Since it is not the rule of the day, all 12 of us will come in dark suits as we have done all this while," the Bukit Assek assemblyman had said on Monday.
The three Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) assemblymen, who came wearing the complete official attire, including songkok, however, held a different view.
PKR's Padungan assemblyman See Chee How said the Sarawak assemblymen were given a choice on whether to wear the state assembly costume or not. It was thus a non-issue.
The state PKR information chief said the party's assemblymen chose to wear it because the attire was just a state assembly costume and the songkok just a headpiece, with no religious connotation," said See.
However, some BN assemblymen expressed regret over DAP's stance.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg said the wearing of the ceremonial attire was a gesture of respect to the Constitution as well as to the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak.
"We have all pledged to uphold the Constitution. We feel that for the DAP not to use the attire, it is as if they do not respect our sovereignty.
"I want to thank the PKR assemblymen, though they are in the opposition. They respect the state assembly and also our guest of honour. I think they have better culture than the DAP," said the Satok assemblyman.
Both Abang Johari and Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Aspia Awang Nassar explained that the songkok itself did not have any religious connotation.
"I respect Lim Guan Eng (DAP president) because Lim wore a songkok when he attended the Rulers' Conference," Aspia said.
He said the state assembly would not force assemblymen to wear anything they did not want but he stressed that wearing a songkok did not signify that a person was a Muslim.
"It is wrong to think that a songkok shows your religion. If you look at Indonesia, there are non-Muslims who wear songkok."

The actions of the jackass DAP representatives of not wearing the ceremonial attire is a blatant act of disrespect towards the Constitution and the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak.
These motherfuckers who can't even speak proper Malay, should be stripped of their nationality as Malaysians because they are actually communists and should go back to either China or Singapore.
If they cannot even adhere to the simplest of rules which had been in place for decades, we can just imagine what will this country turn to if those motherfuckers were given the chance to administer our country.
Just as Selangor had been a heaven now for vice den and will soon replace Thailand as a sexual destination, we can expect Malaysia will later be recognised to be a homosexual country if Anwar becomes the puppet Prime Minister for
the DAP and the Jews.
Those immigrant should remember if it were not for the goodwill of the Malays to grant the Chinese and Indians the Malaysian nationality in the exchange to get sovereignty from the British, you would still be a China or India national.
These DAP ADUNs are very stupid indeed!
ReplyDeleteLearn a lesson from your mentor Lee Kuan Yew from Singapore who wore a songkok during his rounds in campaigning for votes in the Muslim areas. A simple gesture which won the hearts of the Malays.
We are sure that these DAP ADUNs can only win in Chinese majority areas only.
So there go DAP's hope of conquering Sarawak!
And winning in the Malay majority areas in Sabah and the Peninsula.
Salam Bro Mohd. The ultra kiasu of those DAP ADUNs have to be broken by rejecting them in the general election.
